Sean Paul’s 2016 hit single “No Lie,” featuring Dua Lipa, is Spotify’s most streamed Dancehall single for 2023 according to data provided to WMV by the company on Monday December 19.
The song which surpassed 1 billion streams on the platform early October marks Sean Paul’s first leader to attain the milestone on Spotify. It is one of seven songs by Sean Paul to make this year’s most streamed Dancehall songs on Spotify counting since January 1, making him the first artist to land seven songs on the top 10.
The 50-year-old Grammy Award winner expressed his joy to WMV at the sustained resonance of his music with audiences worldwide.
“Feels good to know that you can do songs and they just grow and grow and grow,” he said. “Cause when No Lie first came out that was a dope song. Nuff people loved it. It went on a lot of likkle streaming vibes and it just kept going. So awesome!” he shared.
In February of the last year, “No Lie” earned double platinum certification in the United Kingdom from the British Phonographic Industry, surpassing 1,200,000 units in the country. Additionally, the single holds the distinction of being Sean Paul’s longest-running on the U.K. Singles chart, spending an impressive 30 weeks and peaking at No. 11.
In the US “No Lie” peaked at No. 184 on the Billboard Global 200 chart and No. 113 on the Billboard Global Excl. US chart.
The track produced by Sermstyle and Phillip Kembo, was the lead single for Sean Paul’s EP “Mad Love The Prequel,” which is Spotify’s most streamed dancehall album for 2023. The EP was released in June 29, 2018 through SPJ Productions Ltd in partnership with Island Records and has sold 350,000 units in the U.S. according to data provided to WMV by Billboard sales trackers Luminate.
“Mad Love The Prequel” has a total of 1.6 billion lifetime streams on Spotify, it is Sean’s most streamed studio project on the platform.
“No Lie” was also included in the super deluxe reissue of Dua Lipa’s RIAA Platinum debut studio album, “Dua Lipa: Complete Edition,” in 2018.
“Temperature”, “Get Busy”, “She Doesn’t Mind”, are at No. 2, 3 and 5 respectively. Spice’s “Go Down Deh,” featuring Shaggy and Sean Paul at No. 4 (up from 6 last year). “I’m Still in Love with You,” featuring Sasha, lands at No. 7 and “Got 2 Luv U,” featuring Alexis Jordan, at No. 10.
Popcaan‘s “We Caa Done,” featuring Drake is at No. 6 and Charly Black’s “Gyal You a Party Animal” at position 8 and the sped-up version is at No. 9.
Turning our attention to the Spotify’s most streamed Dancehall albums of 2023, Sean Paul continues his reign other than “Mad Love The Prequel” at the top, he has “The Trinity”, “Dutty Rock”, “Tomahawk Technique” and “Scorcha” at Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 9 respectively.
Spice‘s debut album “10” released by VP Records is the only album by a female to make the chart at No. 5.
Popcaan’s “Great Is He” and “FIXTAPE” at the 6th and 8th positions respectively and Gyptian’s “Hold You” at No. 7.
Vybz Kartel‘s career defining album “Pon Di Gaza 2.0” rounds out the top ten.
