Sean Paul’s 2011 single “Got 2 Luv U” is certified gold in the U.K., according to the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). The song has sold over 400,000 units in that territory and it was the first single on Sean Paul’s fifth studio album Tomahawk Technique and features singer Alexis Jordan. Released by Atlantic Records, the summer bop peaked at No. 84 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and No. 20 on the Rap Songs chart and No. 11 on the U.K. singles chart.
Sean co-wrote the song with Ryan Tedder(One Republic) and it was produced and co-written by Norwegian production duo Stargate, who were seen helping Shenseea in studio recently.
Tedder originally wrote and recorded a song called “Not To Love You”.
Sean Paul and Alexis Jordan changed it into a love song replacing Not with Got. Also, Paul wrote and recorded two new verses to replace Tedder’s original first two verses, while Jordan sings Tedder’s original chorus and third verse with different lyrics.
The song was first certified silver in the U.K. 2 years after its release on September 6, 2013. This latest BPI certification add his total certified singles in the U.K. to 39.
The Ben Mor directed music video which was filmed at the Hard Rock Cafe and the Vanity Nightclub in Las Vegas was the 138th most viewed music video on YouTube worldwide in 2011 with 41,644,379 views that year. It has since surpassed 439,000,000 views as of July 2022.
