Sean Paul’s album “The Trinity,” one of the most successful dancehall albums of all time, has just been certified Platinum in the UK for combined sales and streams totaling 300,000 units. This certification was awarded on Friday, August 16, 2024, by the British Phonographic Industry, with data measured by the Official Charts Company.
This latest milestone makes Sean Paul’s the dancehall artist with the most certified Platinum albums in the UK.
Released on September 27, 2005, via VP/Atlantic Records, “The Trinity” was the follow up to Sean’s Grammy winning Dutty Rock album (2002). It spawned the singles We Be Burning, Ever Blazing, Never Gonna Be The Same, Temperature and Give It Up To Me featuring Keisha Cole. It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Reggae albums chart and holds the record for the highest first week debut for reggae or dancehall album in Sounscan history with 107,000 copies.
The album was nominated for Best Reggae album at the 48th annual Grammy awards and was certified 2x Platinum in the U.S. for sales surpassing 2 million units by the Recording Industry Association Of America last year May.
In Australia, the hit producing album reached a peak position of 100 on the ARIA charts, while in Austria, it climbed to number 6. The album performed exceptionally well in Belgium, securing the 4th spot in Flanders and the 9th in Wallonia. In Canada, it peaked at number 4 on the Billboard charts.
In Europe, “The Trinity” reached number 11 in Denmark, 13 in the Netherlands, 5 in France, 9 in Germany, 25 in Ireland, and 8 in Italy. It also saw success in Japan, peaking at number 8 on the Oricon chart, and in Norway, where it reached 36. The album placed at number 40 in both Scotland and Sweden, 73 in Spain, 4 in Switzerland, and 11 in the UK.
In the United States, “The Trinity” was a significant hit, reaching number 5 on the Billboard 200, number 4 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, and number 3 on the Top Rap Albums chart.
Year-end chart performances further highlight the album’s success. In 2005, it ranked 49 in Belgium (Wallonia), 63 in France, 74 in Switzerland, 141 in the UK, and 96 on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. In 2006, it continued to perform well, securing positions 25 in Belgium (Flanders), 72 in the Netherlands, 25 in France, 62 in Switzerland, 60 on the US Billboard 200, and 27 on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
“The Trinity” is also certified Gold in Belgium (25,000 units) and Switzerland (20,000 units), Platinum in Canada (100,000 units), Japan (250,000 units),. In France, it achieved 2× Platinum status (400,000 units), and in Germany, it was certified Gold (100,000 units). In Ireland, it received a Gold certification for 7,500 units. Overall, the album was certified Platinum in Europe, with 1,000,000 units sold.
