Shake It To The Max Snubbed By BET Awards?

Despite the global success of “Shake It To The Max” by Moliy, Silent Addy, Skillibeng and Shenseea, the song was shut out of the 2026 BET Awards nominations announced on Tuesday (May 19).

The snub is even more glaring considering that other African artists secured nominations across multiple categories. Nigerian superstar Tems earned nominations for Best Female R&B/Pop Artist and BET Her for her song “First,” while South African star Tyla received nominations in both Viewers’ Choice and Video of the Year for “Chanel.” Nigerian duo Wizkid and Asake were nominated for Best Group, while Burna Boy earned a Best Collaboration nomination for his feature on Gunna’s “wgft.”

Commercially, Shake It To The Max peaked at No. 44 on the Billboard Hot 100 last year while Tyla’s Chanel peaked at No. 43 in February this year. On Spotify SITTM has surpassed 447 million streams while, more than any other nominated African song.

The song was also shut out of the Grammys this year after it was deemed ineligible for the Global Music Performance category according to the Recording Academy.

This year’s BET Awards also introduced two new categories : the Fashion Vanguard Award and The Pulse Award. The Fashion Vanguard Award recognizes influential figures whose impact on fashion has transcended music, film, sports and culture. Nominees include Caribbean artists Rihanna and Bad Bunny. Others include A$AP Rocky, Beyoncé, Cardi B, Colman Domingo, Doechii, Teyana Taylor and Zendaya.

The Pulse Award, which honors creators and content platforms driving conversations and culture online, features nominees including the 85 South Show, Baby, This Is Keke Palmer, Charlamagne Tha God, Don Lemon, Druski, It Is What It Is, Joe and Jada, On the Radar and R&B Money Podcast.
