Sharon Marley Finds Romance With New Single, ‘Butterflies in The Sky’

Reggae royalty Sharon Marley emerges with a new single distributed by Zokak after 20 years without releasing music. The Tuff Gong Heiress, is best known for her music and performances with Legendary three-time Grammy award-winning Reggae group Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers.

Butterflies in the Sky is a colorful, groovy, and intimately mellow piece of musical art. Sharon Marley takes us on a cosmic experience, traversing the Universe, as a beautiful tropical butterfly, sharing its beauty and love with grace. Even with its short life span, the royal butterfly still floats towards a hopeful future. The lyrics of the song address the magic of Love.

The music for the single is produced by K-Jah Sound and is aptly titled Asteroid Riddim.   K-Jah is a 20-year veteran in Reggae Music with roots in Poland. K-Jah brings with him a love of Reggae and a mix of his instrumentation through musicians including Bartek Drozd, Olaf Węgier, Szymon Chudy, Bartek Bhakti and Jan Gembala. The mix and mastering with Umberto Echo, Oneness Records takes the sound to an impeccably magical place.

Although the song is not distributed by the family label, Tuff Gong,  K-Jah Sound, adds a subtle mix of Reggae, Soul, Jazz and passion with back-up vocals Sharon’s mentor Ricky Walters, Fab 5, Nyanda, Brick n Lace, Paul Bent, Virgo, and her son Ingemar Prendergast who co-wrote Butterflies in the Sky. The visuals speak to physical and spiritual evolution and will be directed by her daughter, filmmaker and director, Donisha Prendergast. This song is very personal to Sharon who commented, “Family and Music is what I know Best”.

The Melody Makers

The Melody Makers was formed at the request of their father, Bob Marley, but was only realized after his death. The band is composed of four of Bob Marley’s ten children, vocalist/guitarist Ziggy, vocalist/guitarist/drummer Stephen, vocalist Cedella, and vocalist Sharon. Her young brother Ziggy was the group’s leader, with Stephen often sharing in the songwriting and lead vocals.

The group released over ten albums which includes their Grammy-winning albums “Conscious Party“, “One Bright Day“, and “Fallen Is Babylon“. They have scored a number one hit “Tumblin’ Down” along with other successful singles “Tomorrow People”, “Everyone Wants to Be”, “Look Who’s Dancin'”, and “Power to Move Ya”.

In 1989, she made an appearance in the movie “The Mighty Quinn” as “Jody”. Her song “I’m Hurting Inside”, which features Sheryl Lee Ralph and Cedella Marley, appears on the soundtrack.
