Shenseea and Masicka’s collaboration, “Hit & Run,” has surpassed 100 million streams on YouTube. The dancehall track released January 26, 2024 reached the milestone on Friday November 29. It is the fasted song by a female Jamaican artist to reach the milestone this year.
The music video for the track, produced by Stephen ‘Di Genius’ McGregor was filmed in Miami with Shenseea expressing her desire for a casual relationship, while Masicka responds with accusations of her being heartless. The song spent 3 weeks at the top of the Jamaica YouTube Chart.
It is now Shenseea and Masicka’s most streamed songs on YouTube. Shenseea’s sophomore album Never Gets Late Here has surpassed 52 million streams on Spotify, making it the highest streaming album by a Jamaican released in 2024.
The album spent 3 consecutive weeks on the Billboard Reggae Albums Chart peaking at No. 4.
Ahead of the album’s release, Shenseea told WMV that “Hit & Run” was dedicated to her ex, “had to double back for a lille sort out you know,”she said with sinister laugh. She remains deeply focused on her career as she prepares for the next phase of her journey in music. The dancehall star reflected on her growth since the release of her debut album Alpha, noting that her evolution as an artist mirrors her personal development. “There is far more work to be done,” she says, highlighting her ongoing ambitions.
The 28-year-old artist, embarked on a multi-city U.S. tour which saw her doing sold-out shows in over 16 cities. Her other single “Honey Boy” with Purple Disco Machine peaked at No. 1 in New Zealand and charted in over 50 countries and topping various charts like the Sweden iTunes Chart.
Despite the accolades, Shenseea’s drive remains unwavering. “I feel successful when I see everyone in the crowd singing my songs,” she says, emphasizing the importance of connecting with her fans. As she looks ahead, Shenseea is not content with past achievements. She’s aiming for even higher milestones, like Grammy nominations and selling out stadiums, but remains focused on doing it for the right reasons: “If you focus on winning a Grammy, you’re only going to feel bad if it doesn’t happen.”
Shenseea is also expanding her horizons, planning to tap into the K-Pop market. “I am going to step into the K-Pop market, I am going for sure,” she states, acknowledging the growing global influence of Korean music and culture. As she continues to evolve, Shenseea’s commitment to her artistry and cultural roots remains at the forefront of her career.
