Jamaican star Shenseea has earned her second career MTV Video Music Award nomination, as she is nominated in the Best Afrobeats category alongside fellow Jamaican deejay Skillibeng, for their viral collaboration “Shake It to the Max (Fly) Remix)” with Moliy and Silent Addy.
The Trick Or Treat singer now makes history as the first Jamaican woman to be nominated for two VMAs.
Shenseea was previously nominated in 2022 for “Push Performance of the Year” for her Global PUSH Artist performance of “R U That” featuring 21 Savage, off her debut album Alpha. At the time, she celebrated the moment as a first for herself and for Jamaica, though others had paved the way over the years including:
•Lady Saw – Nominated in 2003 for Best Pop Video alongside No Doubt for “Underneath It All”
•Bounty Killer – Two-time VMA winner in 2002 with No Doubt for Hey Baby (Best Pop Video, Best Group Video)
•Elephant Man – Nominated in 2004 for “Pon Di River”
•Sean Paul – Multiple nominations including Best Dance Video (2003’s “Get Busy,” 2006’s “Temperature”)
•OMI – Nominated in 2015 for Song of the Summer with his global smash “Cheerleader”.
The music video for “Shake It To The Max (Fly) Remix” by Moliy and Silent Addy featuring Shenseea and Skillibeng was shot on location in Portland, Jamaica. Directed, shot, edited, and color-graded by Fernando Hevia, the vibrant visual was brought to life by Creative Director Savannah Baker and Producer Samo, with support from production company Filmaica.
Styling and glam were led by Savannah Baker and Kris Fe, with makeup by Samantha Baker and Shenseea herself, and hair by Chevii Nice, Angel-Lee Alexia, and Xomara.
Pop icon Lady Gaga leads the 2025 VMA nominations with 12 nods, setting a historic record for being the only artist to top the nominations list three times. She’s closely followed by Bruno Mars (11 nominations) and Kendrick Lamar (10).
Other major nominees include Rosé, Sabrina Carpenter, The Weeknd, Billie Eilish, and Bad Bunny, who are all up for top honors like Video of the Year, Song of the Year, and Artist of the Year.
