Shenseea, Fantasia, and Missy Elliott collaborate on the track ‘Hell No! (Reprise) – Missy Elliot Remix’ for “The Color Purple” movie soundtrack. The song is the newest rendition of Dawn Penn’s 1993 Dancehall version of “You Don’t Love Me (No, No, No).” The soundtrack, titled “The Color Purple (Music From And Inspired By),” was released on December 15 by Warner Bros’ WaterTower Music label.
The remix, produced by Stephen Bray and Nick Baxter, enhances Fantasia’s “Hell No!” with a Reggae beat from Steely & Clevie’s instrumental for “No, No, No” and includes a verse from Shenseea that emphasizes themes of resilience, independence, and self-reliance. Shenseea’s participation in this soundtrack follows her earlier contribution to the Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse soundtrack with the song “Infamous” in collaboration with Myke Towers.
Clevie told WMV that ‘You Don’t Love Me (No, No, No),’ by Dawn Penn was one of the differentiating tracks in dancehall that separates itself form its predecessor genre reggae. “A song like ‘No, No, No’ was a little more aggressive in the mix that fell perfectly into the dancehall genre although it wasn’t ‘buff baff beat.’ I realize you can mix reggae music with an attitude that made it acceptable as dancehall,” he said.
