Shenseea Initially Wanted Bruno Mars On “Flava” But Coi Leray Makes It Playfully Perfect

Coi Leray, Shenseea in Jamaica

Shenseea released her fourth single “Flava” featuring rapper Coi Leray simultaneously with second studio album “Never Gets Late Here” on May 24 and it’s a cultural bop.

The two visited Jamaica during Carnival season to shoot a music video vlog style. The two forged a friendship after Shenseea reached out to her via direct message.

“The relationship with me and Coi came about, she was the only artist I reached out to and say keep your head up,” Shenseea told WMV. The connection between the two artists was more than just professional; it was also about mutual support and encouragement.

“When I saw that she had ‘Players’ I said yes girl I am so happy for you.” Shenseea expressed.

Shenseea initially had a different vision for the collaboration. “First, I wanted to feature Bruno Mars and Bruno passed on it. My second choice was Coi Leray and she crushed it, she did exactly what she was supposed to do,” Shenseea said about the outcome of the Jeff “Gitty” Gitelman produced track.

The collaboration was more than just about making music; it was also about sharing experiences and cultures. “I invited her to Jamaica, in the middle of her Coachella week, and we vibe out and we were shooting a music video the entire time. I wanted her to enjoy the culture, the people, the food. I didn’t want it to be too over-produced and that’s what we did.” Shenseea emphasized the importance of an authentic experience, allowing Coi Leray to immerse herself in Jamaican culture while they worked together.

The two were seeing at the Off-white Party last-night in New York City.

Never Gets Late Here has surged to #1 on the Reggae iTunes Chart and on the all genres iTunes Chart in the United Arab Emirates after just 30 minutes of its global release.

On Thursday, Shenseea surpassed 3 million subscribers on YouTube, making her the first female Jamaican to do so.

Draw figure 8 when me wine up me waist
Bumper on boom we no need 808
If you get a taste you gon’ lick up the plate

Chorus: U wanna rub it up, touch it up
Feel up, bend it up
On it all night
If the lights went down could you keep it up baby
You wanna drop it down, pick it up
Turn around, lift it up
For you all night
Bet you wanna get some a my dutty love baby

Verse 2: The boys them all want me, want me
Them gyal a get salty, salty
When me talking spicy, spicy

Coi Leray: Come on baby, what you trying to do?
I’m trying to pull up on you like a drive thru
I wanna know if we rockin’ would you keep it cool?
Take trips and private dinners just for us two

Yeah, he buy me Givenchy dresses and feed me breakfast
What up
Sex is immaculate, love it when he show affection
Over the balcony, bend me over like we stretching
And I ain’t ever tappin’ out like we wrestling
Uh uh

Throw it back, back, back on it
Got all these boys mad cause I pass on it
I’m a fly bitch come on baby spend a bag on it – spend it
Yeah we so extra, feeling like young and the restless

Chorus

U wanna rub it up, touch it up
Feel up, bend it up
On it all night
If the lights went down could you keep it up baby
You wanna drop it down, pick it up
Turn around, lift it up
For you all night
Bet you wanna get some a my dutty love baby

The boys them all want me, want me
Them gyal a get salty, salty
When me talking spicy, spicy
It make you want bite me, bite me
You just want the flava, flava
You just want the flava, flava
You just want the flava, flava
You just want the flava, flava
Flavaaaa
