Shenseea Is The First Woman To Win A MOBO Award For Best Reggae Act

Dancehall star Shenseea has walked away the winner in the Best Reggae Act category at the 2021 MOBO awards. She was nominated alongside Spice, Sean Paul, Popcaan, Skillibeng, and singer Lila Iké.

This is the first time a woman is winning the award and it is her first time being nominated for the award. Last year, Buju Banton won the MOBO Award for Best Reggae Act after he released his comeback album Upside Down 2020.
Among the male acts to cop the award before are Beenie Man, Popcaan, Mr. Vegas, Stylo G, Damian Marley and Sean Paul.

Shenseea who has had a good year in music was recently nominated for album of the year at the Grammy awards after making two guest appearances on Kanye West’s Donda album. The songs “Pure Souls”, alongside Roddy Ricch and “Ok Ok Pt 2” with Rooga climbed the Spotify charts and gave Shenseea her first Billboard Hot 100 debuts.

The Loodi singer’s MOBO win is her first International music award and if Kanye’s Donda album wins album of the year at the Grammys in January she will join Beenie Man, Damian Marley and Sean Paul as the only acts to win Best Reggae Act at the MOBOs and a Grammy award in the same award year.
