Dancehall chart topper Shenseea made a groundbreaking appearance in Dubai on Friday under the invitation of the Dubai Government. The event dubbed the All Africa Festival is being held at the Burj Park Downtown Dubai.
Shenseea, half Jamaican, half Korean headlines night two and is the only dancehall act on the three night African themed event being held by Emaar, a UAE government subsidiary real estate company.
Producer of the event, Kenya Don said, “The event is expecting over 20,000 people and she(Shenseea) is the only Dancehall/Caribbean act on the event”.
In Justifying why they chose Shenseea to be on the show out of all the other dancehall acts he said, “She is getting mad love on the radio and clubs. She is the only Jamaican that is being played on the mainstream radio other than Sean Paul and Shaggy”
The Run Run dancehall singer has not slowed down her International shows and appearances since signing a new management deal with Sal XO.
In the last six months she did a show stopping Jerk Pan entrance at Rolling Loud Miami and a quick but effective set on Hot 97’s Summer Jam.
The ‘trending gyal’ also sent the industry in a frenzy when she made a surprise appearance with Ye (formerly Kanye West) at his Chicago Donda album listening party. Since then she has climbed the Spotify Billboard charts with two songs featuring off the gold selling album.
Her Manager, Wassim Sal Slaiby, is also in charge of developing North Africa and the Middle East under Universal records.
In April, Republic Records and its parent company UMG founded the new label in partnership with Sal and he recently added P. Diddy under his management wings.
The Middle East And North Africa along with Latin America are the fastest growing regions in music sales and streams according to the 2020 global music report by IFPI.
Although 24 year old Shenseea is not keen on being recognized for being “first”, this was her first time in the Middle East among some heavyweights in the region. Other major acts billed on the show which has its final date on Saturday are; Egyptian pan-Arab singer Mohamed Ramadan, Star Zee from Sierra Leone, MKO, multi platinum producer/singer Sammy Young, Diamond Platnumz and Rema.
Shenseea was last seen at Cardi B’s dancehall themed Birthday Party last week Monday with Meghan the Stallion, fueling rumors that there may be a collaboration in the making after pictures were circulated.
