Dancehall princess Shenseea is in a grateful mood after receiving the news of her first Canadian gold certification for her single Blessed featuring Tyga from the debut album Alpha.
The single was certified gold on Monday, April 11, for selling 40,000 total units in Canada According to Music Canada.
Speaking exclusively to World Music Views earlier today Shenseea said, “Thank you to God, my shenyengz and my team. I am blessed”.
Blessed was produced by Rvssian and co-written by Shenseea, Theron Thomas, Sam Sumser, Sean Small, and Stephen ‘Di Genius’ McGregor and the music video has surpassed 58 million views on YouTube.
It also peaked at No. 33 on the Rhythmic Audience chart and No. 37 on the Rhythmic Airplay chart.
Shenseea potentially has another certification looming in the US as Ok Ok, a song by Kanye West, Chicago native Rooga, Brooklyn rapper Fivio foreign, and Atlanta rapper Lil Yachty, has sold 500,000 units in the US according to Twitter music platform Chart Data.
The track was interpolated and remixed by the dancehall princess and Rooga as OK OK pt. 2. Both Ok Ok and Ok Ok pt. 2 were released August 29, 2021 on Kanye West’s Donda album, and were subsequently revealed to have merged as one song for chart purposes according to MRC data.
MRC Data now Luminate—the company that collects weekly streaming and sales data for music in the US for the Billboard charts—Thus, the Be Good singer, whose real name is Chinsea Lee, has potentially earned herself another gold certification if the same holds true for the based RIAA.
“Ok Ok” debuted at #12 on the Rolling Stone’s Top 100 Songs Chart during the week ending September 2, 2021.
“Ok Ok, Pt. 2” debuted at #49 on the Rolling Stone’s Top 100 Songs Chart during the same week.
Donda was nominated for album of the year at the 64th annual Grammy awards but lost to Jon Batiste We Care, Everyone including Shenseea is considered nominated for the award due to updates to the Grammy’s rules.
