“Pure Souls,” from Kanye West’s 2021 album Donda, with vocals from Shenseea and Roddy Ricch has officially surpassed 100 million streams on Spotify. The milestone marks Shenseea’s second track to reach the coveted number — although, she is uncredited as a featured artist, instead listed as a songwriter and vocalist.
The track which never had a music video or released as a single, extends Kanye West’s tally to 125 songs with over 100 million streams on Spotify.
“Pure Souls” produced by West and BoogzDaBeast peaked at No. 52 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached No. 10 on the Gospel Songs chart. It has been certified Gold by the RIAA, denoting over 500,000 sales-equivalent units in the U.S.
Shenseea’s appearance on the track came after Kanye reportedly discovered her via a Hot 97 freestyle uploaded in July 2021. Impressed by her delivery, he added the Jamaican singer to the song ahead of the Donda listening event at Soldier Field in Chicago on August 26, 2021. During the event, Shenseea joined Kanye onstage alongside Travis Scott, Marilyn Manson, and DaBaby, creating one of the most talked-about moments of the rollout.
Despite not receiving a formal feature credit, her haunting vocals provided a melodic counterbalance to the track’s themes of redemption and reflection, and earned praise from fans and critics alike.
