Dancehall artist Shenseea has scored her second #1 album on the Reggae iTunes chart in as many years. The Jamaican singer’s second full-length album, “Never Gets Late Here,” dethrones Bob Marley’s “Legend: The Best Of Bob Marley & The Wailers” to take the top spot on the US Reggae iTunes Chart just 30 minutes after its release on Friday, May 24, 2024.
The album, released by Rich Immigrants/Interscope Records, is charting on Apple Music/iTunes in 53 countries in total, the most for any Jamaican artist’s opening day in history, including #1 in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.
For the major territories, after 24 hours on Apple Music, “Never Gets Late Here” climbs to #47 in Canada, #55 in France, #64 in the United Kingdom, #85 in the United States, #108 in the Netherlands, #117 in New Zealand, #156 in Australia, #161 in Switzerland, and #185 in Germany. On iTunes, the album ranks #33 in the United States, #41 in Canada, and #126 in Germany.
The album needs a total of 17,000 units in US sales and streams combined to hit #1 on the Reggae iTunes Chart the week ending June 8, 2024. It must beat Bob Marley’s Magnum Opus compilation “Legend” which sells on average 16800 units per week combined in streams and sales. Legend has been #1 for more than 200 weeks, only giving way one week in September 2022 for Stick Figure’s “Wisdom.”
The new music video for “Flava” featuring American rapper Coi Leray, which was released simultaneously with the album, has peaked at #1 on the Reggae iTunes Music Video Chart. This is the second music video from the album to reach this milestone, following “Hit & Run” with Masicka and Di Genius.
Fans are already calling the song a summer banger with several major radio stations in the US including iHeartRadio with over 860 stations already adding it to their playlists.
