Jamaican dancehall star Shenseea is once again stirring up label talk—this time across the pond—after being linked to Sony Music Entertainment UK Ltd., headquartered at 2 Canal Reach, London N1C 4DB, the company’s main UK office.
Rumors went into overdrive after Shenseea and her team reportedly flew to London to shoot promotional images (for less than $400,000, thank you very much) for her upcoming single “Boss Up.” Adding more spice, the song’s pre-save link is hosted on her official website, which—like many major-label artists’ pages—is owned and managed by Sony Music UK.
In true Shenseea fashion, she didn’t miss a beat with the humor, announcing the track on Instagram with the caption:
“Somebody tell Prince Harry ‘Boss Up’ a drop Friday!🇬🇧.”
(The royal reference, of course, nods to Prince Harry, husband to Meghan Markle who both exited from their official UK residence, Frogmore Cottage).
Since parting ways with Interscope Records in November 2024, Shenseea has been shopping for a new record deal. Sources tell World Music Views (WMV) that Def Jam Recordings had shown serious interest after the runaway success of her 2024 smash “Hit & Run” with Masicka, which crossed 100 million YouTube views and became the biggest dancehall song of 2024.
That deal, however, fell through, and no other Universal Music Group imprint has since announced her signing.
If the move to Sony Music UK holds, Shenseea would join an elite lineup of global artists including Adele, Beyoncé, Tyla, Davido, Doja Cat, and Future. The label’s Jamaican roster currently features Skillibeng and Valiant, while Koffee was briefly signed to the label—along with its U.S. counterpart RCA Records—for the release of her debut album Gifted. Koffee remains with Promise Land according to the label’s CEO.
Adding further intrigue, Shenseea’s upcoming single “Boss Up” samples Blu Cantrell’s 2003 hit “Hit ’Em Up Style (Oops!)”, originally released under Arista Records, an American label owned by Sony Music Entertainment, a subsidiary of Sony Corporation of America, itself part of the Japanese conglomerate Sony Group Corporation.
Though no official statement has been made by either party, all signs point toward a possible new chapter for Shenseea under the Sony umbrella but in the coming days we will know for sure whether chairman Jason Iley MBE and the Sony Music UK team “bossed up” and made the official move.
When World Music Views reached out to Shenseea’s team for comment, no response was received.
