Shenseea, Stefflon Don, and Spice are the three most-streamed female dancehall artists on Spotify, according to data shared by the platform on Friday, December 15.
As streaming becomes the more dominant way people consume music around the world, most local artists are seeing an increase in consumption, according to Goldman Sachs’ ‘Music In The Air’ researcher, Lisa Yang. “One of the growing trends we have seen in the last couple of years has been the rise in local artists. We have observed an increasingly diverse set of artists and genres becoming successful on a global level, and that’s because the digitization of music has allowed local music to extend its reach globally,” Yang said in an interview on the Goldman Sachs Exchanges Podcast.
Shenseea, who released several singles this year, leads the pack as the most-streamed female dancehall artist and the fourth most-streamed overall. She released “My Bad” with The Chainsmokers, was on Busta Rhyme’s Blockbusta album, “Beamer” freestyle with Lola Brooks, and earned her first RIAA gold certification for her work on the single “Pure Souls” with Kanye West and Roddy Rich from the former’s ‘Donda’ album.
The Interscope/Rich Immigrants artist has surpassed 500 million lifetime streams on Spotify across all credits, and her top song is “Blessed” featuring Tyga from her debut album “Alpha.” Last year Alpha was the highest selling dancehall album by a female artist in the US, selling 60,000 album equivalent units between its March 11 released and December 2022.
Stefflon Don is the second most-streamed female dancehall artist and the fifth most-streamed overall for 2023. The British artist promised her fans that she would drop her debut album, “Island 54,” during the summer, but the project has since been pushed back indefinitely. Still, she released a couple of singles and collaborations this year, including “Whats Popin'” with BNXN and “DemDead.”
Despite not topping the female dancehall artist list of 2023, Stefflon Don has 2.5 billion lifetime streams across her catalog, making her the most-streamed female dancehall artist on Spotify of all time.
Koffee is the third most streamed female dancehall artist according to Spotify’s data and seventh overall. The Toast singer still riding high on the success of her Grammy wining EP Rapture as well as her top selling debut album “Gifted.” The Columbia/RCA artist toured with Lauryn Hill this on select dates including the Australian leg of her ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’ 25th Anniversary Tour.
The breakout single “Toast” is Koffee’s most streamed song overall on Spotify with 165 million lifetime streams.
After a slew of controversies on Love and Hip Hop and winning the Female Dancehall Artist Of The Year at the 2023 Caribbean Music Awards, Spice is the fourth most-streamed female dancehall artist on Spotify and eighth overall, with “Go Dung Deh” featuring Shaggy and Sean Paul released in 2021 being her top song.
Sean Paul is the most-streamed dancehall artist on Spotify for three years in a row.

Following closely at No. 2 is Popcaan, who released his 5th studio album “Great Is He” on January 27, 2023. The album debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart, selling 3200 album equivalent units in its first week, 300 of which were pure album copies. The album has sold just under 30,000 units since its released in the US according to data provided to WMV by Luminate.
Incarcerated deejay Vybz Kartel, claims the third spot and Charly Black is No. 6th most streamed dancehall artist on Spotify.
Beenie Man on the heels of his Grammy nomination is at number nine, showcasing his enduring influence on the dancehall scene into the streaming era. Rounding out the list is rising star Skillibeng.
