Shenseea is making her sojourn into the world of rap music with a new song ‘Beamer’ with Brooklyn New York rapper Lola Brooke.
The music video for the song has surpassed 1 million streams on YouTube but ‘Beamer’ has only made an impact on Apple Music at #4 in Montserrat and #22 Seychelles. The song produced by London On The Track was first previewed on a From The Block freestyle as Shenseea code-switches on her verse apparently in an effort to reach the high streaming American Hip Hop audience. On the day of the song’s release the Interscope Records artist posted on her Instagram Story: “I DJ/RP & Sing. I’m not gonna limit myself to do one when I can do both.
The music video concept for ‘Beamer’, directed by Sam Brave takes artistic liberties with the Hype Williams movie Belly. The song’s intro samples the audio of Ox played by dancehall star and actor Louis Rankin, in the scene when he told Tommy, the character played by DMX, “don’t you ever bring scared business to me, you looking at the toughest R***Cl**t Jamaican in the United States Of America.” Shenseea mimes the words in the video while sitting in the back of a Rolls Royce driving through the streets with children chasing the car similar to the movie scene when both characters visited Jamaica.
The Shenyeng Boss has been out to test whether the grass is greener in the US music market, even as her fans complain that they want her to return to her dancehall roots.
“Grass green but mi still hustle fi make it greener. More cheese pon mi bread, it look like pizza. VVS so cold, straight out of my freezer. Me nuh play, like the dealers, top shottas and squeezers, Me nuh talk to bum bi**h bottom feeders,” she rhymes unbothered.
Lola on the other hand, with a flow reminiscent of Trinidadian New York rapper Foxy Brown, “On Your Mark, hit it say go/Never speak on business, if it’s supposed to be disclosed. He gon’ get it for trolling on my post. Man, f**k these h*e-a** niggas, I been f**kin’ on the rose (Uh-uh, uh-uh). It ain’t a plane, it’s Lola, Runnin’ over feelings with a Rover.”
