Dancehall artist Shenseea has earned her first U.K. certification with “Shenyeng Anthem,” produced by Chimney Records. On September 20, the British Phonographic Industry awarded the track a Silver certification for surpassing 200,000 units in sales and streams in the country.
“Shenyeng Anthem,” her breakout single on Chimney Records’ Rice Grain Riddim, also earned 6.1 million U.S. streams within a year of its release, according to Nielsen Music. The music video, which pays homage to Shenseea’s Asian heritage, sparked controversy upon its debut. “Some people didn’t see the potential, but it gave me my own lane,” Shenseea told Billboard in 2019.
The song has become a staple in her live performances, where her loyal fanbase, the Shenyengs, always greet it with deafening screams. “I’m not just a pretty face, I’m an entertainer. You get me?” she remarked.
Shenseea’s latest music video, “Dating Szn (Options),” dropped on Friday, sampling TLC’s 1999 hit “No Scrubs.” The track discusses dating multiple people before committing and was directed by Sam Brave and Chris Moreno. The video premiered on YouTube ahead of the song’s digital release on Monday.
Fans are already praising “Dating Szn” as a potential anthem for women. “No Scrubs,” a cultural classic, topped the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified 5X Platinum in the U.S. Shenseea’s release comes on the heels of her sophomore album Never Gets Late Here, the highest-streaming album by a female dancehall artist in 2024, boasting over 40 million streams. The album features hits like “Hit & Run” with Masicka and “World Me Out” featuring Wizkid.
