Moses ‘Shyne’ Barrow recently shared his profound experiences during his visit to Jamaica on Instagram, detailing key meetings and an emotional reunion with Adidja Palmer, known globally as Vybz Kartel.
Shyne began by highlighting the significance of his meetings with prominent Jamaican leaders and influencers including Prime Minster Andrew Holness and businessman Michael Lee Chin:
“My visit to Jamaica included meetings with the Prime Minister @andrewholnessjm the Opposition Leader @markjgolding renowned MP @lisahannamp Billionaire investor @michaelleechin among other key stakeholders…”
However, he emphasized that none of these encounters were as moving as his meeting with Vybz Kartel:
“…but none was more moving than my meeting with Adidja Palmer @vybzkartel.”
Reflecting on their last meeting, Shyne shared the distress he felt seeing Kartel in captivity:
“The last time I saw Adi was 8 years ago September 2016 at the Horizon Correctional Facility in Kingston Jamaica where I visited him with my brother Michael Peyrefitte. It was a distressing experience to see a global musical icon in captivity.”
Drawing from his own experiences of “wrongful captivity,” Shyne expressed a deep connection to Kartel’s suffering:
“Having been wrongfully held in captivity myself I felt the pain of his suffering deeper than most.”
The recent reunion with a free Vybz Kartel profoundly moved Shyne:
“To now see my musical brother free in the flesh after 13 years of bondage moved me to the core.”
Shyne praised Kartel’s resilience and his unyielding spirit:
“We should all be inspired by the resilience of Vybz who never gave up on his freedom, never gave up on making great music beyond most of his counterparts.”
He underscored the importance of resilience and faith, especially for the youth:
“All of us, especially the youth should know the resilience of Adidja Palmer is within all of us. We should also learn that life will humble you, life will sit you still to teach you but once you draw near to the Creator and never give up life will vindicate you with the rewards you sacrificed for.”
Shyne offered words of encouragement and advice to Vybz Kartel, urging him to move forward with purpose and humility:
“Take your time brother Adi, be patient with yourself, move with humility, strategy and purpose.”
He concluded with a heartfelt wish for Kartel’s future:
“You have been resuscitated, given life anew, may you enjoy in good health, happiness and the greatest dancehall music you will ever make.”
Meanwhile, Scott Dunn, Group Managing Director of Dream Entertainment Limited, has released a letter on Instagram praising The Honorable Moses ‘Shyne’ Barrow, Leader Of The Opposition in Belize. Dunn said he was inspiration from a scheduled 20-minute meeting with Barrow at the AC Marriott Hotel in Kingston, which extended into a three-hour conversation.
Moses ‘Shyne’ Barrow, born in Belize City but raised in Brooklyn, NY, has a story marked by dramatic contrasts and significant milestones. “In New York, they lived a humble life: his mom cleaned houses and his ‘bed’ was actually the sofa. Summers in Belize were with his dad, Dean Barrow, who would later become Prime Minister of Belize,” Dunn recounts.
Barrow’s journey to stardom began in 1998 when he was signed to Bad Boy Records, becoming an instant millionaire and Grammy-winning superstar. However, his ascent was abruptly interrupted by a 1999 shooting incident, resulting in his imprisonment in 2001. Despite his circumstances, Barrow remained loyal to his mentor, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, and continued to release hit songs while incarcerated.
Dunn calls Battow the “Fall Guy” in the incident saying his loyalty and resilience stands out:
“In 1998 the then amateur rapper was signed to Bad Boy Records and became an instant-millionaire and Grammy award-winning superstar… Moses Barrow (then Jamal Barrow) was the ‘fall guy’ in a December 1999 shooting.”
Shyne, in acknowledging Dunn’s heartfelt words posted on instagram in the comments saying, “Great connecting with you brother @dunnscott look forward to working together to materialize our vision for Belize and Jamaica.”
