Renowned neo-soul singer and songwriter Angie Stone has tragically passed away at the age of 63. According to reports by TMZ, she was involved in a fatal car accident early Saturday morning in Montgomery, Alabama. Sources indicate that her sprinter van flipped over three times before being struck by an 18-wheeler truck.
Born Angela Laverne Brown on December 18, 1961, in Columbia, South Carolina, Stone’s musical journey began in the late 1970s as a member of The Sequence, one of the first female rap groups. Their 1979 hit “Funk You Up” was a pioneering track in hip-hop history. Transitioning to neo-soul, Stone released her debut solo album, “Black Diamond,” in 1999, which achieved gold certification. Her 2001 single “Wish I Didn’t Miss You” became one of her most popular songs.
Beyond music, Stone ventured into acting, appearing in films such as “The Hot Chick” (2002) and “The Fighting Temptations” (2003). She also participated in reality TV series like VH1’s “Celebrity Fit Club” and TV One’s “R&B Divas.”
Stone is survived by her son Michael, daughter Diamond, and two grandchildren. Her legacy as a trailblazer in both hip-hop and neo-soul continues to influence artists today.
We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and fans during this difficult time.
