Queen of Hip Hop Nicki Minaj brought Skeng and Skillibeng together for the the first time on the track “Forward From Trini” produced by Basbeats and Melio Sounds on her latest album Pink Friday 2.
This is the first time Skeng and Skillibeng are appearing on a track together, but Nicki previously collaborated with the two individually, first for Skillibeng’s Crocodile Teeth Remix (May 2021) which peaked at No. 99 on the Billboard Hot 100 and last year’s Likkle Miss Remix with Skeng which peaked in the top ten on the U.S. iTunes chart.
The dancehall-infused song retains a sample of Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness’ voice uttering “fully dunce,” originally featured in Skeng’s “Likkle Miss” produced by Drop Top and Di Truth Records.
The Barbie Queen has an affinity for reggae and dancehall music and a year ago she introduced Skillibeng to her millions of fans worldwide as she embraced the St. Thomas deejay on stage in Canada at the Young Money Reunion concert where the performed Crocodile Teeth for the first time.
Likewise Nicki Minaj and Skeng were in New York City last year August where they met for the first time face to face. Minaj posted a video on her instagram directing her fans to go listen to their song “Likkle Miss Remix” with both the Trini and Jamaican flags. She even gave Skeng a shout out while collecting her MTV Video Vanguard Award lat year. There has been an ongoing negotiation to sign Skeng to her record label according to sources close to the matter.
Nicki Minaj released her fifth studio album, “Pink Friday 2,” through Young Money/Republic. The album includes collaborations with J. Cole on the track “Let Me Calm You Down,” Lil Wayne and Tate Cool Bang on “RNB.” Additionally, Drake is featured on the Afrobeats-infused track “Needle,” Lourdiz on “Cowgirl,” Lil Uzi Vert on “Everybody,” and gospel singer Tasha Cobbs Leonard on “Blessings.”
“Pink Friday” consists of 22 tracks and serves as the sequel to Minaj’s 2010 debut album. This album marks her first studio release since “Queen” dropped five years ago in 2018.
The album involved the collaboration of over 40 producers, including Finneas, Hollywood Cole, YG! Beats, ATL Jacob, Murda Beatz, OJ Finessey, Kuji, Boi-1da, Fierce Apollo Parker, 116, YogiTheProducer, Dr. Luke, DJ Smallz 732, FnZ, Keanu Beats, BoogzDaBeast, Slade Da Monster, Go Grizzly, Cheeze Beatz, Basbeats, Melio Sounds, J Reid, Malibu Babie, Vaughn Oliver, Aaron Joseph, Jess Carp, Don Cannon, Sean Momberger, B Ham, Vincent “Life” Shaw, Bnyx, Sad, Beau Nox, TooDope!, Frankie Bash, and Bone Collector Habib Defoundoux.
The album which is currently No. 1 in all genres on iTunes is being promoted with a Gagcity artificial intelligence virtual reality, initiated by fans on social media and it is currently No. 1 in 22 countries on Apple Music and 36 countries on iTunes in just a few hours of its release. “Needle” with Drake is the No. 1 song on iTunes in the US.
