Dancehall deejay Skeng left the Reggae Sumfest stage and jetted off to Antigua where he was one of the headline acts at the La Playa Privada event which included Govanna, Aidonia and Jada Kingdom. During the ’23’ deejay’s set a disabled fan entered the stage and took the mic. In an act of kindness Skeng responded favorably to the fan and without missing a beat the man dressed in a jeans suit did his own version Gvnman Shift interchanging some of Skeng’s lyrics with his own.
Skeng, 21, joined in the excited fan’s moment and embraced him as the crowd roared and at one point Skeng the Ed even using his crutches as a prop.
Dancehall deejay Konshens in reacting to his actions on stage said, “😂😂😂 yow mi rate dah artiste yah yuh fukk. Di dawg wild !! ENTERTAINMENT.”
One fan commented, “Yes me Artiste me love this😂😂🔥”
Meanwhile, the management team of Skeng is expressing dissatisfaction with the Reggae Sumfest Festival organizers, after what they say are a series of disorganized events.
They say Skeng invested a lot into his performance at Sumfest including his attired for the night which was reported to cost more than one million dollars by our affiliate Dancehall Report.
The itemized receipt stated that Skeng paid CA$1,550.00 for his Burberry Men’s Trainers which he wore to the show and his displeasure was further compounded after the pants tore during his performance.
His management Told World Music Views on Monday that the real reason Skeng is not pleased is because up to now there is no recourse from the Sumfest team.
“Skeng is still disgruntled, the whole team is still flabbergasted and up to this point there has been no line of communication from DSR office or Sumfest.”
They said long before the show’s date there were discussions around whether or Skeng would close the show and the Reggae Sumfest organizers agreed that he would be on stage in a timely manner and would not be the night’s closing act.
“There was always an issue as to who was going to close Sumfest 2022, we had extensive conversation about Skeng not wanting to close Sumfest, that was the decision, period. We got the line up, and was happy with his placement and as predicted it ran over, so even the time we have to think of artists getting emotional and I was robbed of the opportunity to ensure to do whats in the best interest if my artist because of production at Sumfest.”
World Music Views obtained the running order for Reggae Sumfest Night 1 and it placed Skeng as the third to last person to perform before Masicka and Brysco.
Skeng was highlighted by many persons on social media as one of the leading acts of Reggae Sumfest night 1.
However his management said his appearance as the closing act is yet to be paid for by the Joe Bagdonovich led Sumfest team.
“Ye he delivered because thats what he was born to do, but him closing wasn’t arranged, it wasn’t planned, it wasn’t agreed, it also wasn’t paid for and nobody has called to apologize,” they professed.
Veteran deejay Cham also expressed that there needs to be more professionalism in the organization of Reggae Sumfest. At the close of his tribute to Dave Kelly set he said “We have been waiting hours and hours, all of us has been here since 12:00 am, we were supposed to go onstage since 2:44, we need more professionalism.”
