Skillibeng Secures First U.K. Afrobeats No. 1 Hit with “Jump,” His Feature with Tyla and Gunna

Dancehall artist Skillibeng earns his first U.K. Afrobeats No. 1 song for “Jump,” a collaboration with South African sensation Tyla, from her self titled album released last Friday.

“Jump” also features former YSL rapper Gunna but it now becomes the first song feature a dancehall artist to debut at No. 1 on the U.K. Afrobeats Chart.

Track 9 on the album, the Sammy Sosa produced song was written a Geejam Studios Jamaica and enters at No. 80 on the U.K. Official Singles Chart.  and composed by Tyla, Skillibeng, and Gunna. Skillibeng’s previous entry was Crocodile Teeth which peaked at No. 74 on the U.K. Official Singles Chart May 27, 2021.

The UK’s top 20 Afrobeats songs of the week based on sales and streams across a seven day period, compiled by the Official Charts Company. While the Official Singles Chart is based on the biggest songs audio-visual streams and downloads and physicals curated by the Official Charts Company.

Tyla’s ART produced by SOSA also enters the U.K.’s Afrobeats chart dated April 5, 2024 at No. 2. This so Tyla’s second time occupying the top 2 positions on the UK Afrobeats. She last hit the milestone with “Water” and “Truth Or Dare.

Her 14-track album boasts features from Travis Scott on the remix of her breakout hit “Water,” Nigerian sensation Tems on the track “No. 1,” and Kelvin Momo on the intro.

The music video for the ‘Water’ remix featuring Scott premiered before the album release on March 18, already amassing over 2 million views on YouTube. The original version of “Water” dropped in July, achieving worldwide success by topping charts in sixteen countries, including the United Kingdom and the US Afrobeats charts. The song even clinched the inaugural award for Best African Music Performance at the 66th Annual Grammys in February.

Meanwhile music video for Shaggy’s single “Boombastic,” has surpassed 200 million views on YouTube. On the day of the milestone the video was made unavailable worldwide on YouTube. This usually happens when the ownership rights for the song have been changed or playback rights are expired.

The song released in May 1995 was certified platinum by the RIAA 29 years ago. Released as the second single from his third studio album, “Boombastic” quickly gained international success, debuting at No. 1 on the British singles chart and reaching the top of charts in Ireland, UK, Sweden, New Zealand, and Australia. The song spent a week at number one on the US Billboard R&B chart and reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100. Its success was further boosted by its use in a popular Levi’s commercial.
