Skip Marley’s ‘Higher Place’ EP Surpasses 100 Million Spotify Streams

On the heels of his Tuff Gong Takeover event on Sunday in Coney Island, New York, Grammy nominated reggae artist Skip Marley’s debut EP “Higher Place” has surpassed 100 million streams on Spotify. The seven track project was released August 28, 2020 on Island Records, the home label of his Grandfather Bob Marley’s music catalog.

In 2021 Skip earned two Grammy nominations for “Higher Place” in the Best Reggae Album category and track 2 from the EP. “Slow Down” featuring H.E.R. received a nomination for Best R&B Song.

Other singles released from the EP include “Thats Not True” featuring Damian Marley,” No Love,””Make Me Feel”(featuring Rick Ross and Ari Lennox).  “Slow Down” certified Gold for selling 500,000 units of sales and streams in the US by the Recording Industry Association Of America (RIAA).

“Slow Down” won Best Collaboration and Video of The Year at the 2020 Soul Train Music Awards as well as a nomination for Best Pop Video at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards.

The third generation Marley gained recognition and acclaim for his 2018 collaboration with Katy Perry on “Chained to the Rhythm” which earned him a BMI Award for Award-winning songs.

His impressive musical presence also earned him a nomination for Outstanding New Artist at the 2021 NAACP Image Awards. Additionally, Marley’s album  While “Slow Down” received, showcasing Marley’s versatility and ability to captivate audiences across different genres and mediums.

Skip is signed to his godfather Chris Blackwell’s Blue Mountain Music Publishing, and was an opener for his uncles Damian and Stephen Marley on the Catch a Fire Tour.

His commercial campaigns include a 2017 Gap 1969 Denim ad, and his 2017 single “Lions”, which was produced by Ilya Salmanzadeh. was used in the infamous Pepsi short film commercial, Live for Now which starred Kendal Jenner.

His other major achievements including co-writing and featuring on Katy Perry’s 2017 single “Chained to the Rhythm”. They performed the song at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards and also at the 2017 Brit Awards. The music video for the song has surpassed 700 million YouTube streams.

Chain To The Rhythm, released by Capitol Records, is certified double platinum(2,000,000) in the U.S. by the RIAA, certified gold in the U.K.(400,000), France, Germany, Denmark, New Zealand, platinum in Australia, and triple platinum in Canada.
