Sony Group Corporation Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), the powerhouse behind PlayStation, has announced that Hideaki Nishino will take over as President and CEO, effective April 1, 2025. The leadership transition follows a strategic restructuring that began in May 2024, aiming to optimize synergies across the organization.
Nishino, currently CEO of the Platform Business Group at SIE, will now oversee the entire PlayStation division. Hermen Hulst, who was appointed CEO of the Studio Business Group in 2024, will continue in his role, reporting to Nishino. The move signals Sony’s commitment to innovation and growth within its gaming ecosystem.
A New Era for PlayStation
“It has been a pleasure working more closely with Hermen and Nishino-san and gaining insight into the ever-changing, fast-paced world of Sony Interactive Entertainment. As we hand the baton to Nishino and this exceptional leadership team, I am confident that SIE will reach new heights in the days ahead,” said Hiroki Totoki, Chairman of SIE and President, COO, and CFO of Sony Group Corporation.
Under Nishino’s leadership, Sony aims to expand the PlayStation brand through new technology, creative developments, and the expansion of intellectual property. Nishino expressed enthusiasm for his new role, stating, “I am truly honored to take the helm at Sony Interactive Entertainment. Technology and creativity are two of our biggest strengths as we continue to focus on developing experiences that deliver entertainment for everyone.”
Changes in Sony Group Leadership
As part of the broader corporate restructuring, Totoki will step down as SIE Chairman to focus on his responsibilities as President and CEO of Sony Group Corporation. Lin Tao, currently Senior Vice President of Finance, Corporate Strategy, and Development for SIE, will also transition to Sony Group Corporation as CFO. Her replacement at SIE will be announced at a later date.
Reflecting on Lin Tao’s contributions, Totoki stated, “I am delighted to welcome Lin Tao as my successor as CFO of Sony Group Corporation. Lin has been instrumental to our success at SIE, leading the finance and corporate strategy and development functions, and I look forward to working closely with her at Sony Group Corporation.”
Expanding PlayStation’s Reach
Hermen Hulst will continue to lead SIE’s Studio Business Group, overseeing first-party game development, publishing, and business operations. His role also includes expanding PlayStation game franchises to other devices and entertainment mediums through PlayStation Productions.
With this leadership shift, Sony is setting the stage for a new era of gaming innovation. Nishino reassured the PlayStation community, saying, “We will continue to grow the PlayStation community in new ways, such as IP expansion, while also delivering the best in technology innovation. I am deeply grateful for the PlayStation community and their continued support, and I am very excited for what the future holds.”
