Sara Blakely , the CEO of Spanx ShapeWear made a groundbreaking decision recently when asset management firm Blackstone bought a majority stake in the company bringing the value of the brand to $1.2 billion.
In giving back to the people who helped her to reach the momentous achievement, namely her employees,
the billionaire CEO posted an Instagram video last week where she surprised all of her employees with $10,000 and two first-class plane tickets to travel anywhere in the world.
“I really want every employee to celebrate this moment in their own way and create a memory that will last them a lifetime,” she wrote in the caption, adding, “Cheers to 21 years of magic and many more to come …. ”
In the video posted on her Instagram Blakley gave an emotional speech and topped it off with her gifts, “I will give everyone of you two first class tickets to anywhere in the world”
The 50 year old entrepreneur said, “On the white board in my room, I wrote a goal down. I said, ‘This company will one day be worth $20 million.’ Everybody laughed at me…And so, to stand here today and think about what we’ve been able to create and what we’ve been able to do by being authentic and kind and amazing products to women.”
“To use very feminine principles in a very masculine space, which is business, leading with intuition and vulnerability…I think it’s a really big moment in time for women.” She added.
The decision by Blakley to compensate her staff with dream vacations, is similar to the recent “Can You Feel It” Carib Beer commercial with dancehall star Shenseea, Trinidadian singer Kerwin Du Bois and hip hop mogul DJ Khaled.
In the 6 minutes and 6 seconds commercial DJ Khaled intro, “Congratulations you didn’t play yourself, I appreciate every single one of ya’ll, you motivating, you are inspiring, it’s only right we celebrate our wins, you been working hard so now it’s time to play hard, taking everybody on vacation…We gonna celebrate the ‘beautiness’ of the Caribbean.”
It is yet to be seen if the staff at Spanx will be spending their all expense paid trip in one of the Caribbean’s luxury resorts.
