A pre-recorded interview with Stefflon Don on Hot 97 with TT Torez hit the internet yesterday and she spoke about several subjects regarding her music and career. The bite that has everyone talking though is the subject of her ex-boyfriend Burna Boy’s global hit “Last Last”.
Host TT asked her, “your last boyfriend we all know Burna Boy you all were together.”
A vivacious Steff then said “we was together two and a half years,” and TT followed up with “I liked y’all together.”
Agreeing with her Stefflon said, “I know everybody says that but you know.”
TT followed up with,“do you think he was talking about you with that new song?”
A blushing Stefflon Don then asked. “What do you think?”
TT: I think it’s about you.
Steff: Whatever you think is what it is.
They both shared a laugh and bantered back and forth but Steff went into details about the length of their relationship and revealed that there are inaccuracies with parts of “Last Last.”
“When I heard it how did I feel, he said something in there and I was like that’s a lie,” she said.
She revealed how long she has been single, “I’ve been single, people don’t know we been broke up for a year now.” She also said she will not date anyone in the music industry again.
Another subject she spoke about was her departure from Atlanta based record label QC which was a Universal subsidiary tasked with her America marketing. Prompted by TT she said, “QC wasn’t my priority label so because of that I wasn’t getting priority services so I say I want to go independent and see how that goes and it’s been going good.”
The 30 year old Stefflon says her upcoming album “54 London” will be a mixture of Caribbean vibes and have some Afro in there.
Four years ago Stefflon Don was asked by Peter Rosenberg of Hot 97 during an interview, “who is your dream dancehall feature?” and without hesitation she answered “Vybz Kartel.” She then followed up with “I am gonna get him on my next project though.” The opportunity to collaborate with Kartel came when producer Dunwell reached out to the two internationally known artists for his Playstation riddim.
The British-Jamaican has hit songs in multiple genres and two of her more successful songs “Calypso” with Loius Fonsi and “Bum Bum Tam Tam” with MC FIOTI, FUTURE, J. BALVIN, JUAN MAGAN(6x platinum) are latin songs merged with her signature dancehall sound.
She however says she is an all around artist, “I think I’m all around but in the U.K people say I am a rapper because I came out as a rapper.”
Fresh off its U.S. RIAA certification Last Last by Burna Boy is now certified Gold in Canada for selling more than 40,000 units in that country. The summer smash hit Last Last is also eligible for Gold certifications in France(100,000), Holland(80,000), Sweden (4 Million Streams), Belgium (20,000), Switzerland (10,000), and New Zealand (15,000).
