Mind Control, Stephen Marley’s debut album has surpassed 100 million streams on Spotify. This is Stephen’s second album to reach the milestone on the platform, following his 2011 album Revelation Part 1: The Root Of Life.
Released on March 27, 2007, via Universal/ Tuff Gong, Mind Control won Best Reggae Album at the 2008 Grammy Awards.
Recorded in Marley’s Lion’s Den studio in Miami, Florida, as well as Marley Music and Tuff Gong studios in Kingston, Jamaica, “Mind Control” is a fusion of reggae, hip-hop, and soul influences. Produced solely by Stephen Marley himself, the album serves features Damian Marley, Mos Def, Mr. Cheeks, Ben Harper, New York singer Maya Azucena and Illestr8.
The album’s breakout single “The Traffic Jam,” featuring Damian Marley, a catchy and socially conscious track that addresses the challenges of urban life, was the title the Spring 2024 tour with the two brothers that took them across 18 cities in the U.S. from Long Beach, California at Cali Vibes Fest on February 16 and ended in Chicago , Illinois on March 18 at the Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom. Stephen and Damian are set to be back on tour along with their brothers Ziggy, Julian and Ky-Mani for a Marley reunion tour in the fall- The first in 20 years.
That tour, promoted by Live Nation, is set to begin September 5th at the Festival Lawn at Deer Lake Park in Vancouver, covering 22 North American cities, ending at Miami’s FPL Solar Amphitheater, on October 5th.
Today, Sunday April 28, Stephen Marley perform an acoustic set with his band at French Broad River Brewing, North Carolin. The set features songs from his latest album, “Old Soul,” released on September 15, 2023. Stephen started the Old Soul Tour Unplugged in 2023 and continues the tour in 2024, with a portion of ticket proceeds benefiting the Ghetto Youths Foundation, supporting communities in need worldwide.
