Major Lazer and Ellie Goulding’s “Powerful” featuring Tarrus Riley, has surpassed 300 million streams on Spotify. It is Tarrus’s first song to reach the milestone, Major Lazer’s seventh and Goulding’s 15th.
The song which is second single from Major Lazer and Ellie Goulding’s third studio album Peace Is The Mission (2015) is certified Gold in the U.S. for sales and streams surpassing 500,000 units by the Recording Industry Association Of America. It also achieved a BRIT Certified Silver Award on October 7, 2021 for selling over 200,000 units in the United Kingdom.
Administered by the UK record label association BPI, the BRIT Certified Awards Programme recognizes the commercial success of music recordings and videos. “Powerful,” described as an EDM power ballad, gained popularity internationally and was featured in various advertisements, including Emporio Armani’s fragrance campaign in 2017 starring British actor Nicholas Hoult and Italian actress Alice Pagani, in a commercial titled ‘The New Love Story’ portraying a classic love tale accentuated by Goulding and Riley’s emotive soundtrack.
Overall Riley has over 550 Million streams on Spotify across his catalog. Of that amount 190 million as a lead singer, 160 million as a solo and 355 million as a featured artist.
On YouTube “Powerful” has been a hit since its release in July 24, 2015, accumulating over 144 million views. The new Emporio Armani fragrance ad, directed by Fabien Constant, is set to debut on February 1st, 2020, showcasing Riley’s continued impact in the music and advertising realms.
Meanwhile six year old musician Lake Anthony, says he recently learned the lyrics to Tarrus Riley’s “Gimmie Likkle One Drop” produced by Chimney Records. He posted a video on TikTok doing rendition of the song asking “How was that?” at the and and saying “Love Jamaica.” Riley reposted the video on his Instagram with a stamp of approval saying, “Blessings @lakeanthonymusic U got da vibes.”
