“I Am Chippy,” the debut EP by Warner Recording artist Teejay has replaced Bob Marley‘s magnum opus compilation “Legend” to land at No. 1 on the Reggae iTunes Chart within hours of its release. This marks Teejay’s first No. 1 project on the chart and he deejay says he is on a campaign in North America, touching down in cities like Los Angeles, New York, Toronto and Miami in an effort to make the EP debut on the Billboard chart.
The EP released today February 2, is currently charting at No. 11 on US iTunes (all genres) and No. 58 in Canada making it the first dancehall project to enter top 15 in the US in 2024. It is also No. 1 in they Cayman Islands and Grenada, No. 16 in Ghana and No. 28 in Turkey. On Apple Music, the EP has secured #12 Jamaica #14 Cayman Islands #19 Saint Kitts and Nevis #22 Antigua and Barbuda #50 British Virgin Islands #77 Guyana in less than 24 hours.
Led by the breakout hit “Drift” which entered at No. 47 on the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop Airplay chart, the project is executive produced by Grammy winning dancehall superstar Shaggy, Teejay himself, Sharon Burke and Steve “Steve-O” Carless. The second single is “Dip” featuring Tommy Lee Sparta.
Last month “Drift” peaked on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay at No. 40, while on the Billboard Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, the song peaked at No. 29.
Davido features on the “Drift” Remix, Jaydon and Quada, Skillibeng, Bayka and Malie Donn whose “V6” was the most streamed dancehall song on Jamaica on YouTube and Spotify for 2023 are all on the project.
