The Comet (Official Music Video) By Vybz Kartel Is No. 1 Trending In Jamaica

Less than 24 hours after its release, Vybz Kartel’s The Comet (Official Music Video) surges to No. 1 on YouTube’s top 50 trending videos in Jamaica on September 14, 2024.

It is The Gaza 2.0 artist’s second YouTube overall top trending video in one month after his  “Vybz Kartel Returns: The ER Interview – Part 1” and “Part 2,” both released by Television Jamaica trending No. 1 and No. 2 on August 11.

Directed by Denardo Brown of Chrome Video Entertainment, the video features real-life footage of Kartel’s first day of freedom. It opens with scenes outside Jamaica’s Supreme Court, where supporters chant “Free World Boss,” then cuts to a shot of a comet parachuting from space towards Earth.

Kartel is later seen walking out of the Tower Street Adult Correctional Institution, flashing his Gaza sign and dressed in all white. The angle of the footage is noticeably different from the news broadcast on the day of his release on July 31, leading some to speculate that Kartel had a crew on hand to capture the moment he reintegrated into society as a free man.

“All inna prison me a mek million/ me a talk bout US dollar/ a bag a big song, watch eh Feva,” he sings, boasting, “Me sell eh Gold and sell eh Silva,” celebrating his musical success even behind bars.

The 48 year old deejay is the first and only Jamaican artist to become certified Gold for selling 500,000 in the U.S. and Silver for sales surpassing 200,000 in the U.K. for a single while being incarcerated.

The song engineered by Red Boom also addresses public conversations about his fiancé Sidem and his long time girlfriend Shorty. Kartel also took lyrical shots at his contemporaries saying their careers are now cut short like “Nicki Mini.”

Likkle Addi, Kartel’s son who was in the home studio while the song was being recored is also seen in the music video hanging out through the sunroof . “The Comet” is  No. 15 and No. 23 on Sweden and Norway respectively after 13 hours of its release. It is also No. 9 on the U.S. Reggae iTunes chart.

Fans flooded the comments section of Vybz Kartel’s “The Comet” music video, expressing their excitement and support for the artist’s return in a visual after so many years. Many celebrated the fact that Kartel is finally free and able to appear in his own video, with some predicting massive viewership milestones, like reaching 10 million views soon.
