Morgan Heritage’s latest album “The Homeland” missed this week’s Billboard Reggae Albums Chart after selling only 100 units of pure album sales in its first week of release in the US according to data provided to World Music Views by sales trackers Luminate. The sales numbers for the 21-track collection marks one of the group’s least selling opening weeks.
Homeland follows their 2019 album Loyalty which has sold 2,500 units in the US since its August 2 release that year. Of that sum Loyalty has sold 1,100 pure copies.
over the years Morgan heritage has released several critically acclaimed reggae albums. Among top performing albums in the US include Full Circle (2005) which has sold 40K units included sales and streams (pure Sales: 26K). Mission In Progress (2009) has so far earned 20K album equivalent units including sales and streams (pure sales: 13.6K).
Their Grammy winning album Strictly Roots (2016) has earned 18K album equivalent units (Sales: 10K).
In a released Morgan Heritage said Homeland signals a new era for the group as they expand their global reach from the Caribbean to the African Continent and beyond. With the aim of bridging the gaps between Africa and Jamaica.
“This album is a project of rebirth for the Morgan brothers, built upon a lineage that has lasted decades and one that will continue to forge forward,” Morgan Heritage said.
Among the features in the album are Shaggy, Beenie Man, Popcaan, Shatta Wale, Ice Queen Cleo, Youssou N’Dour, Mádé Kuti, Alpha Blondy, Otile Brown, Eddy Kenzo, Busy Signal, Capleton and more.
The lead afro-fusion single “Who Deh Like U” feat Bounty Killer, Cham & Stonebwoy, which debuted at #1 on the US iTunes Afro-Beat chart. The YouTube video has surpassed 600,000 views.
Elsewhere Homeland is charting on Apple Music: #39 St. Lucia, #41 Saint Kitts and Nevis, #44 Anguilla, #49 Grenada, #65 Cayman Islands, #83 Malawi, #94 Jamaica and iTunes: #52 Burkina Faso.
