Protoje “Who Knows” featuring Chronixx has officially surpasses 100 million streams on Spotify.

The track, released in 2014, is the lead single from Protoje’s third studio album Ancient Future (2015) and stands as his first song to cross the 100M mark on the platform and Chronixx’s second.

Speaking exclusively with World Music Views on June 30, 2025, Protoje reflected on the enduring success of the song produced by Winta James and the journey that led to its creation.

“Well, it’s a joy, because it just proves that the music pick up steam… the song keep on grow(ing),” he said. “Chronixx and I had been linking for years before we even did a song together, and people used to speculate about us doing a track. When it finally happened—it turned out to be the biggest one for both of us.”

He described the track as a pivotal moment in both their careers as it their biggest local collab. Chronixx’s top song on Spotify is ‘Eternal Light’ with Free Nationals. The milestone also shines a spotlight on the resurgence of reggae through streaming, an industry shift Protoje embraces while acknowledging the value of vinyl and physical sales.

“Streaming makes people go back and find the classics. But I still sell vinyl on the road. Both should be used. Every tool where you have reach,” he shared.

The track’s message, roots sound, and synergy between two of Jamaica’s most influential modern artists have given “Who Knows” a life far beyond its original release. The music video has also passed 200 million views on YouTube, and the song was certified Silver in the UK in 2022 for sales exceeding 200,000 units.
