The Various Artists On “Bob Marley: One Love Music Inspired By The Film” Will Not Receive A Grammy Trophy

The 2025 Grammy-nominated album Bob Marley: One Love Music Inspired By The Film, released on February 14, 2024, by Tuff Gong/Island Records, features 10 artists covering Bob Marley’s classic songs. However, according to Recording Academy rules, these artists will not receive a Grammy trophy for Best Reggae Album.

The album includes interpretations of:

  • Natural Mystic by Bloody Civilian
  • Exodus by Skip Marley
  • Waiting In Vain by Daniel Caesar
  • Three Little Birds by Kacey Musgraves
  • One Love by Wizkid
  • Is This Love by Jessie Reyez
  • Redemption Song by Leon Bridges
  • Rasta Reggae [Jamming] by Farruko
  • Misty Morning by Mystic Marley
  • No Woman No Cry by Shenseea

Several major Caribbean brands have been congratulating individual artists listed on the project for winning a Grammy Award, however, for the Reggae category, the Recording Academy requires that an artist’s contribution must exceed 50% of the album’s playing time to be considered a nominee. Since none of the featured artists on Bob Marley: One Love have more than one song (each contributing roughly 10% of the album), they do not qualify as Grammy nominees. Instead, they will receive certifications for their participation on the album and cannot be referred to as Grammy nominees.

Grammy trophy

According to the Recording Academy, only individuals credited in an eligible role on a Grammy-nominated recording are considered nominees. Nominees receive an invitation to the Grammy Awards, a nominee medallion, and a nominee certificate. Artists who worked on the project in non-eligible roles may state that they “worked on a Grammy-nominated project” but are not nominees.

This marks the fourth time a various artists compilation has been nominated for Best Reggae Album. Previous nominations include:

  • Stir It Up (Columbia Records), featuring Diana King’s cover of Bob Marley’s Stir It Up. Notably, King has never been nominated for a Grammy despite being featured on several nominated projects.
  • Island Warriors (in 2022)
  • Def Jamaica (Def Jam Records, in 2005)

After the Grammy telecast, eligible producers and engineers on the winning album are audited to determine additional Grammy winners.

Producers & Engineers with less than 50% playing time; Mastering Engineers on “Bob Marley One Love Music Inspired By The Film (Deluxe0” will also receive a Winners Certificate after the telecast but are not considered Grammy nominees or winners. They may state they “worked on a Grammy-winning project” but cannot claim to be “Grammy winners.” Additionally, those in non-eligible roles on Grammy-winning or nominated projects may order a Participation Certificate for a fee from the Academy’s website.
