“I remember when we first started and you remember this Ronny , so many people didn’t believe in us, there was a crazy bet to make, I still think it was a crazy choice”- Noah on his Daily Show farewell.
Daily Show host Trevor Noah announced his resignation from the show on Thursday. The comedian made the announcement by giving a farewell speech in front of the Daily Show’s live audience.
“I just found myself filled with gratitude for the journey. It’s been absolutely amazing. It’s something I never expected,” Noah said.
“I realize that after 7 years my time is up, yeah but in the most beautiful way. I love hosting the show, it’s been one of my greatest challenges, one of my greatest joys…after 7 years I feel like it’s time,” he continued.
Noah said coming into the Daily Show he “felt like Charlie & The Chocolate Factory” and he ” came in for a tour(7 years ago) of what the previous show was and next thing I know I was handed a key”
He ended the 4 minute speech by saying he will not be disappearing and “All I can say is thank you very much.”

Trevor Noah started hosting the The Daily Show, after the previous host Jon Stewart left. The show debuted in 1996 with former ESPN SportsCenter anchor Craig Kilborn as the host (1996–98) then Stewart took over until 2015 during whose tenure the show reached its greatest popularity. Noah has anchored since 2015 up until now. A new host was announced.
The Daily show is a satirical news program on Comedy Central and during his time Noah has won various awards, including a Primetime Emmy Award from eleven nominations. He was named one of “The 35 Most Powerful People in New York Media” by The Hollywood Reporter in 2017 and 2018. In 2018, Time magazine named him one of the hundred most influential people in the world.
Born in Johannesburg, under the apartheid system, Noah began his career in South Africa in 2002. He had several hosting roles with the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) and was the runner-up in the fourth season of South Africa’s iteration of Strictly Come Dancing in 2008. From 2010 to 2011, he hosted the late-night talk show Tonight with Trevor Noah, which he created and aired on M-Net and DStv.
In 2014, Noah became the Senior International Correspondent for The Daily Show, and in 2015 he was invited to host. His autobiography Born a Crime was published in 2016 where he discusses how his early upbringing with a single mother shaped him into who he is today. He hosted the 63rd and 64th Annual Grammy Awards in 2021 and 2022 as well as the 2022 White House Correspondents Dinner.
Trevor Noah announced the Trevor Noah Live in South Africa tour, sponsored by Savanna Premium Cider, will take place between August and September 2023.
Noah is currently doing live tour dates in North America but says he can’t wait to return to his home country.
“I’ve been away from the Mzansi stages for too long, and so much has happened- I’m excited to be back in front of a home crowd,” he said about the upcoming tour.
