Trueno’s ‘REAL GANGSTA LOVE’ Hits No. 1 On Apple Music Amid Political Turmoil in Bolivia

Despite a coup d’état currently unfolding in Bolivia, the music scene remains vibrant, with an eclectic mix of artists dominating the Apple Music charts.

Since gaining independence in 1825, the South American country has experienced over 190 coups and revolutions, and holds the record for most coups for any country since the 1950.

On Wednesday, as a group of Bolivian military officials occupied the main square in La Paz in what is presumed to be a coup d’état attempt against President Luis Arce, Argentine rapper Trueno’s ‘REAL GANGSTA LOVE’ is the number one on Apple Music. it also topped the chart in Paraguay, Peru, Argentina and Spain.

‘REAL GANGSTA LOVE’ is currently No. 1 on Spotify in  eight countries including Bolivia, Argentina, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Spain, and Uruguay. it has also topped the chart on Apple Music

The song is predicted to reach #21 on the Billboard Global 200 in its second week of release.

Arce condemned the military presence in Plaza Murillo via a post on X, stating, “democracy must be respected.”

He wrote: “A group of the Challapata Special Regiment ‘Mendez Arcos’ took over Plaza Murillo with snipers.

“This seems to indicate that they prepared the coup d’état in advance. I ask democratically-minded people to defend the homeland from certain military groups that act against democracy and the people.”

President Luis Arce released a video urging the population to organize and mobilize to defend the country’s democracy in rejection of the attempted coup d’état. “We stand firm in the Casa Grande del Pueblo with the entire cabinet and social organizations,” he affirmed.

A live TikTok broadcast by Bolivia TV showed soldiers and military police entering the government palace, with a military armored vehicle parked outside. Pro-Arce protesters gathered on some streets leading to the square, chanting slogans in support of the president. The military used some form of riot control gas, as seen in the live feed.

Organization of American States Secretary General Luis Almagro expressed solidarity with Arce’s government and condemned the military’s actions in a post on X.
