In anticipation of a hot summer, Spotify has released its “Songs of the Summer 2024” playlist to compliment the heat.
This year’s lineup features 30 tracks running for one hour and thirty monists with a blend of established stars and emerging talent who have already released eclectic soundtracks for beach days, road trips, and late-night parties.
Pop music dominates the list with 26.67% representation, featuring artists like Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift. Hip-Hop/Rap follows with 16.67%, including tracks from Kendrick Lamar and Post Malone. Indie Pop and Country each capture 10% of the playlist, with standout songs from Clairo and Luke Combs, respectively.
Reggaeton and Afrobeat also hold significant spots, each comprising 10% of the list, with contributions from Rvssian, Feid, and Burna Boy. EDM/Pop and R&B each account for 6.67%, while Electronic/House, Dancehall, and Alternative Rock each make up 3.33% of the summer soundtrack.
Skillibeng and Rvssian are the two Jamaicans on the list but “Jump” by Tyla, featuring Gunna and Skillibeng is the only track flying the dancehall flag high for the summer on Spotify.
The song has broken records in the UK by being the longest song at No. 1 on the Afrobeats Chart featuring a Jamaican at 7 weeks.
“Santa” by Rvssian, Rauw Alejandro & Ayra Starr has surpassed 200 million streams on Spotify since its April 4 release.
The track fuses reggaeton and afrobeat influences, delivering a sound that is both fresh and irresistibly danceable.
Another standout track is “Tshwala Bam (feat. S.N.E.) – Remix” by TitoM, Yuppe & Burna Boy.
The high-energy afrobeats track that showcases Burna Boy’s signature style, blending traditional African rhythms with contemporary beats. The remix is set to be a club favorite, perfect for summer nightstand house parties.
