Usain Bolt and NJ

Fresh off the success of their Billboard charting debut album, Country Youths, Usain Bolt and NJ will be dropping new music soon. This according to NJ in an exclusive interview with World Music Views on Saturday.

“We have songs (coming up). We dropped the Busy(Signal) wah day, and we have a song with him and Yaksta, we have a couple other songs.”

“We have a song we could drop the next few weeks but we a gwan push the Busy Signal right now; ‘Play Ground’.”

Play Ground is an upbeat dancehall track touting wealth and positivity, released a month ago.

NJ has his eyes set on the summer for more releases but may drop one song from his arsenal within weeks.

“The song with Yaksta is a tropical sound. So we wait till Easter or closer to the summer and we have(another) song with Ding Dong but that have to wait till summer. The earliest a song could drop is in the next two weeks and thats more motivational,”

In speaking about the state of the music industry NJ came to the defense of the young minds in the music business and said,

“Todays Youths own more of them stuff than artists in the 90s and they know about them writing and publishing.”

While acknowledging the success of Sean Paul and others in the past, from the genre he declared that dancehall needs a superstar to get things going again.

“The music(dancehall) needs a WIZKID, an international figure and things can gwan in the music.”

“When you reason with certain people, you see the music is disenfranchised. A song in Latin America can take off cause they stream musical culturally. They have the numbers and systems”

The International athlete manager further commented that artists should find a way to bridge the communication barrier so they can appeal to a wider audience without losing their Jamaican flavor, noting that Sean Paul has mastered this art.

“Most of the artists the moment them cross over they don’t sound Jamaican anymore.” he concluded.
