Vice President Kamala Taps Megan Thee Stallion, Quavo For Presidential Campaign

US Vice President Kamala Harris taps hip-hop artists for her presidential campaign.

Before Harris took the stage in Atlanta on Tuesday (July 30), Grammy-winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion performed, wearing a royal blue pantsuit, and sang hits including “Savage” and “Mamushi.”

Quavo also spoke at the event and when Harris took the stage she wasted not time got down to business by shading Donald Trump with a Migos reference during her speech.

“As my friend Quavo would say, he does not walk it like he talks it,” she said about Trump.

The Vice President challenged former President Donald Trump to a debate before the November election while campaigning in Atlanta on Tuesday night.

“He won’t debate, but he and his running mate sure seem to have a lot to say about me,” Harris said. “Well, Donald, I do hope you’ll reconsider meeting me on the debate stage because, as the saying goes, if you’ve got something to say, say it to my face.”

A debate between Trump and Biden was planned for September 10, but Biden dropped out of the race. On Monday, Trump told Fox News he wanted to debate but could also “make a case for not doing it.”

Harris positioned herself as the underdog against Trump but said, “the momentum in this race is shifting and there are signs that Donald Trump is feeling it.”

This is Harris’ first visit to Georgia since Biden ended his reelection campaign. Her campaign aims to keep the battleground state in play. Harris, the presumptive Democratic nominee, emphasized Georgia’s importance early in her speech.

“I am very clear: The path to the White House runs right through this state,” Harris said. “You all helped us win in 2020, and we are going to do it again in 2024.”

Biden narrowly won Georgia against Trump four years ago — a rare Democratic victory in nearly three decades. Biden’s disastrous debate performance in Atlanta against Trump in June ultimately led to his withdrawal from the race.

Harris outlined priorities for her potential administration, including reviving a bipartisan border bill that Trump lobbied against, addressing price gouging, and capping “unfair rent increases” and prescription drug costs. Her mention of the border bill aimed to counter a Republican criticism.

Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, Mayor Andre Dickens, Rep. Nikema Williams, and former gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams joined Harris at the event.

Over 10,000 people attended, according to the campaign, marking her largest rally to date.

Harris is expected to choose her running mate by Monday, with a top tier of candidates emerging. She said earlier Tuesday she has “not yet” decided.

Harris and her vice-presidential candidate will campaign together in battleground states next week, sources told CBS News.

Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, are scheduled to campaign in Atlanta on Saturday.
