Video: ‘Run’ Remix By Killer Mike Featuring Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley

Atlanta rapper and activist Killer Mike releases the latest remix for his track “Run” this time with Reggae singer Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley with a music video shot on location Miami.

This version of ‘Run,’ is produced by Damian Marley as a remix to the track from Killer Mike’s critically acclaimed album, “Michael.” It is a global ghetto anthem addressing struggles face by people around the world affected by systemic challenges. Damian sings “If money run like joke nobody cyah rich like we.”

The hip hop album version of “Run” is produced by No I.D. and features Young Thug with vocals from Dave Chapelle.

On this reggae infused version Killer Mike rides the one drop riddim matching Damians experience in the gene as both artists spar in inner city Miami, in-front of a shop interacting with locals, dancing freely and spitting poignant lyrics in the streets.

Reflecting on the collaboration, Killer Mike emphasizes the universal appeal of both hip-hop and reggae, referring to them as “people’s music” that speaks for the working class and the masses. He expresses pride in uniting the musical styles, vibes, and diaspora with Damian Marley, stating, “Run to glory together! Love and respect.”

Killer Mike’s album “MICHAEL,” released in June 2023, is nominated for Best Rap Album at the 66th annual Grammy Awards in 2024 and final voting round begins today through to January 4.  The track “SCIENTISTS & ENGINEERS,” featuring Future, Andre 3000, and Eryn Allen Kane, has also received nominations in the Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance categories.

Describing the album’s significance, Killer Mike likens it to a prodigal son’s return, a generational statement, and suggests that if August Wilson were crafting a rap album, “MICHAEL” would be his “Fences.”
