Shenseea “Never Gets Late Here” and Vybz Kartel’s “Party With Me” have both earned nominations for Best Reggae Album at the 2025 Grammy Awards. This marks a milestone for Vybz Kartel, as it’s his first Grammy nomination, while Shenseea celebrates her second. Her first nomination was for her contribution to Kanye West’s Donda, which was up for Album of the Year in 2021.
She also appears on Bob Marley: One Love – Music Inspired By The Film, another album nominated in this year’s reggae category.
Notably, only two dancehall projects are represented among the nominees.
“The Color Purple (Music From And Inspired By),” is nominated for Best Compilation Soundtrack For Visual Media. On that album Shenseea is featured along with Fantasia, and Missy Elliott on the track ‘Hell No! (Reprise) – Missy Elliot Remix.” The song enhances dancehall producer pioneers Steely & Clevie’s instrumental for “No, No, No” by Dawn Penn.
The full list of nominees for Best Reggae Album shortlisted from the 75 submissions include:
- Take It Easy – Collie Buddz (Harper)
- Party With Me – Vybz Kartel (Adijahiem Records)
- Never Gets Late Here – Shenseea (Interscope/Rich Immigrants)
- Bob Marley: One Love – Music Inspired By The Film (Island Records/UMG)
- Evolution – The Wailers (Crescent Moon Record, Inc / Marshall Sound Inc.)
This is the first nomination for a Bob Marley project, however it is an album of classic covers inspired by the One Love film released in February this year.
