“We will see,” dancehall star Vybz Kartel says about the prospects of him running for Member of Parliament in Jamaica during a sit-down interview with his lawyer and TV host Isat Buchanan on Thursday (August 8, 2024). “Come in like me haffi go just run fi MP because chatting sometime nuh go nuhweh inuh, sometime you haffi get involved, but we will see,” he said.
Kartel, 48, who has been released from prison for one week and a day, has been a headline maker both at home and abroad since his release. While he has not made a definitive decision, he confirmed with his lawyer Isat, who said, “That’s an idea, yuh nuh,” by saying, “Me know, and me serious, but we will see.”
Buchanan pressed to ask which constituency he would run for and the Dumpa Truck deejay said, “Would have to be St. Catherine South,” the same constituency he was living before he was arrested in September 2011. The constituency situated in Portmore is made up of the communities Helshire, Greater Portmore East and Greater Portmore North. Kartel’s self named “Gaza” community is in the Portmore area known as Waterford where he was based. St. Catherine South is currently represented by People’s National Party representative Fitz Jackson since 1994.
In another interview with Fox5 released on Thursday, the superstar dancehall artist sent a message of consciousness about the value of time to the youths.
“Remember Vybz Kartel is that artist, what I will say to the fans a part form be determined never give up from my heart is time is precious, don’t wast it,” he said.
His album First Week Out surged to No. 1 on 19 countries with fans wondering when will be his first stage show.
“About December, they can look out so they can save their money, its gonna be expensive so they can sell their organs” Kartel joked.
As for his health Kartel says, “We have to do a series of blood test next week Tuesday and take it from there.” The deejay added, “Sometimes you gotta just know you still have to find time for friends, for loved ones and give it the same amount of energy that we would our careers,” as his fiancé wiped sweat from his face.
Evers says Kartel told her that his wedding to Sidem “would be the icing on the cake.” He also told Isat, “remember me engage inuh, soon to be married…one burna badness.”
