Vybz Kartel’s “Fever,” has surpassed 100 million streams on Spotify on August 21, 2024. It is the deejay’s first song to reach the milestone from a catalog of almost 500 songs on the platform.
Released as a single on his King Of The Dancehall album (June 10, 2016), via Adidjahiem Records/TJ Records, the track peaked at No. 36 on the U.S. Billboard R&B/ Hip Hop Airplay Chart and #23 on the Rap Airplay Chart in June 2017.
The summer bop officially achieved Gold certification February 7, 2020 for sales and streaming combined units of 500,000- the first time a dancehall artist achieved the milestone behind bars.
It has also been Britcertified Silver in the U.K. by the British Phonographic Industry as of Friday, February 10 for streams and sales units surpassing 200,000.
The TJ Records-produced track has amassed over 62 million views on YouTube and stands as Kartel’s most commercially successful single to date.
Fever found a place in U.K. pop culture when comedian Aurie Styla poked fun at the Portmore Empire leader saying Kartel is his favorite artist. Styla joked that Fever was clearly written while Kartel was locked up in prison because the deejay was usually clear and articulate, but on Fever Kartel’s cadence changed to a whisper as if he is looking for the warden after singing every line. The clip shared on social media has been viewed over 1.4 million times.
Just recently, Kartel himself surpassed 1.2 million followers on TikTok, becoming one of the most followed Jamaicans on the platform.
