LONDON, UK — Vybz Kartel’s summer anthem “Summertime” has officially been certified Silver in the United Kingdom by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) for surpassing 200,000 units in sales and streams as of June 27, 2025.

This marks Kartel’s second UK single certification following his 2016 hit Fever.

The track released by Tads Records also crosses 111 million views on YouTube as of June 2025— his first solo track to achieve that milestone on the platform. It has 49 million Spotify streams, his second single to reach the milestone.

Originally released in 2011, “Summertime” signaled a distinct shift in Kartel’s musical direction, moving from darker, gun-centric themes to a more upbeat, carefree celebration of Jamaica’s sun-soaked season. The video, directed by Kirk Lee, quickly became a visual staple of Caribbean party culture, loaded with poolside scenes, infectious energy, and vibrant female dancers.

The song was produced by Andreas Nilsson of Adde Instrumentals, a Stockholm-based producer who became a key contributor to Kartel’s catalog. Nilsson shared in a 2014 interview that he had encouraged Kartel to voice multiple tracks on the “Summer Time” riddim.

Earlier today, Kartel was gifted a summertime ready golf cart after purchasing three homes in a development in Florida. The DJ then called out DJ Khaled, inviting him for a round of golf.
