Nigerian superstar Burna Boy gets in touch with the people of Nigeria in his latest music video “Common Person.” The video released on Monday (January 30, 2023) is the 6th single from his 6th studio album Love, Damini. The song is produced by Afrobeats producer Telz.
In a 2021 interview Telz spoke eloquently of Burna Boy saying “He is one of the nicest people you would ever meet.”
In the video Burna Boy is living out his nice guy persona as he rolls trough the slums of Nigeria in a fleet of Mercedes Benz cars to interact with the “common persons” as they pick leaves, cook, push a car among other things.
The song’s trumpet based music acts at the backdrop to enthusiastic people in the neighborhood telling stories of their encounter with the African Giant.
In Google Year in Search global trends for ‘most searched songs’ was Burna Boy’s “Last Last” at No. 10.
The song was released in May of 2022 as the lead single for the album released on Atlantic Records/Spaceship label. Since selling out two nights in Madison Square Garden, the African Giant has opened up himself to new audiences in America and across the world which has increased a global demand for his tour.
The breakup anthem Last Last, which exploded after he first performed it at the Billboard Music Awards in May, samples Tony Braxton’s Darkchild produced “Wasn’t Man Enough.”
“Last Last” has now sold more than 1,000,000 units in the U.S. and ‘Ye’ from the album Outside (2018) was certified Platinum on January 26, 2023. ‘On The Low’ from the album African Giant (2019) was certified gold last April 26.
He is the only African artist to earn RIAA certifications for songs from three (3) different Albums.
