Watch: Drake Told Crowd He No Longer Performs His Billboard No. 1 Hit “Work” With Rihanna

Toronto rapper Drake says he no longer performs his Billboard No. 1 hit “Work” by Rihanna. The Cash Money artist made the declaration during a concert with J. Cole in Tampa Florida on Friday just before he ascended in the air while the song played.

“I don’t sing this song anymore, you can sing it for me,” he told the crowd of screaming fans. It is not known why Drake, born Aubrey Graham refused to verbalize one of the most popular songs from his discography but the song continues to sell over one million units per year.

The dancehall song from Rihanna’s 8th studio album, Anti (2016) was released January 27 as the lead single a day before the album dropped. It is now certified 9x Platinum by the Recording Industry Association Of America (RIAA) on January 28, 2023 and is ranked among the highest selling dancehall songs of all time by WMV.

It’s Rihanna’s third song to achieve a 9x Platinum certification, following “Stay” and “We Found Love.”

“Work” topped the Billboard Hot 100 for nine consecutive weeks and was certified Platinum or higher in thirteen nations globally. The accompanying dancehall backdrop music video has amassed over 1.3 billion views on YouTube.

“Work” has more than 30 million worldwide sales and was the biggest female song of 2016 as well as the best-selling song by a female artist (as lead artist) of 2016 in the US.

The song haas over 1.3 billion streams on Spotify and is certified Diamond in France. It holds the record as the female song that has spent the longest at #1 on Spotify Brazil (95 days). Rihanna and Drake received two GRAMMY nominations including Record Of The Year and Billboard credited the song for making Dancehall reign popular again.
