Dancehall princess Shenseea has joined Kanye West, Donda official and a list of Hip Hop artists and poets to talk about their life’s circumstances and what their vision is for Black Future. The idea first promoted by Kanye West on Instagram is intended to replace Black History Month with Black Future Month.
Shenseea details her life from humble beginnings in Jamaica to a dancehall star traveling every day while helping a lot of people. A not so far cry from her deceased mother’s aspirations for her to become a flight attendant and her aunt’s aspirations for her to become a Doctor.
“My name is Shenseea and I come from Kingston, Jamaica. I have never met my father and my mom is deceased”, she began.
“I’ve always heard something in my head telling me you are going to be the next big thing, you are going to represent for your country, represent for the entire Caribbean”, she continued.
For Kanye’s video he began “Everybody my name is Ye, my father was a Black Panther and my mother worked with Operation Push with Jessie Jackson and became the first female head of the English department at Chicago University”.
Other celebrity figures who joined the declarative short videos include Brooklyn native Fivio Foreign,
Attorney Michelle Mitchell who works with Facebook and Instagram,
And NFL Football player Antonio Brown.
Black History Month is observed in the United States, each year and it has received official recognition from governments in Canada, and more recently has been observed in Ireland, and the United Kingdom. It began as a way of remembering important people and events in the history of the African diaspora. It is celebrated in February in the United States and Canada, while in Ireland, and the United Kingdom it is observed in October.
Incidentally it was historian and author of the book “The Miseducation Of The Negro”, Carter G. Woodson and the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History (ASNLH) who originally announced the second week of February to be “Negro History Week”. This week was chosen because it coincided with the birthday of Abraham Lincoln on February 12 and that of Frederick Douglass on February 14, both of which dates Black communities had celebrated together since the late 19th century.
This is shenseea’s second time onstage with Kanye West after she was seen at the Donda listening session in Chicago last year.
Kanye West announced recently that Donda 2 will only be available on his Stem Player due to inequalities and low cost of streaming in the music business.
He later bragged of making 2 Mi million dollars in sales of Stem Players.
Shenseea is not confirmed to be on Donda 2 by her debut album Alpha is due for March 11.
