For many fans of dancehall singjay Masicka, the release of “Love Story”, the first track from his forthcoming album 438 was like the light at the end of what seemed to be an infinite tunnel.
For months, the Genahsyde fans waited impatiently for word about the promised album. Some even speculated that he had forgotten about it.
Alas! Last Wednesday, the “Just A Minute” artiste promised his loyal fan base that they would not have to wait a minute more for another release from the album.
Thousands flocked to YouTube in the wee hours of the night to hear this new tune.
Within hours of its release date, ‘Masicka’ was trending at number one on Twitter, and his infamous crocodile emoji was the most used by supporters for hours thereafter.
Masicka spits hardcore lyrics, whether about his ability to defend himself or his sexual escapades.
“Love Story” is a refreshing side of the artist who promoted a mature approach to courting a woman.
“Mi deh yah suh fi lift yuh up, not only lift yuh skirt” and “Mi picture you a seh ‘I do’ with one a mi youth inna the church” introduces a new side of Masicka. In the view of many, this is what was missing from his image. Many when suggested that the single, “put them in their feelings” and expressed how delighted they were at his versatility.
In the song Masicka expresses regret at losing someone who he was in love with and the lengths to which he would go to right his wrongs. His lyrical brilliance on a complementary rhythm is as simple as a love letter with an introduction, body and climatic ending.
As he skillfully paints a picture of bliss when referencing his female love interest it echoes as a commendable deviation from the present dancehall melancholy.
Masicka’s album 438 is set fo release December 21.
