Watch: Nicki Minaj Thanks Beenie Man, The Jamaican People & S/O Skeng As She Collects MTV Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award

Nicki Minaj performed a slew of hits at the 2022 MTV Video Music Award, the Barbie Queen took to the stage to accept her Video Vanguard award.

In her speech she said she wanted to thank Caribbean people, Beenie Man, the people of Jamaica and gave a shout out to Skeng with whom she dropped the Likkle Miss Remix Collab early this morning.

The hip hop queen also said, “I wish Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson were here,” she shared. “I wish people understood what they meant and were going through. I wish people took mental health seriously.”

Minaj also kept it hip hop and paid homage to deceased rappers Pop Smoke, Nipsey Hussle, and Juice WRLD. She mentioned her own family members who passed as well including her dad, cousin, and business manager Andrew.

The Young Money artist is the first Vanguard recipient since 2019’s winner Missy Elliott. Along with receiving one of the night’s highest honors, she hosted the awards ceremony alongside LL Cool J and Jack Harlow.

Likkle Miss Remix is currently No. 2 on the Hip Hop iTunes chart and in the top 10 on the US iTunes all genres chart. It is Skeng’s first time in the top ten on both charts. A music video for the song is currently being shot on location in New York and sources say Minaj may be coming to Jamaica to shoot some scenes.
