Watch: Shenseea’s Never Before Seen ‘Women Empowerment/ Money’ Freestyle

Jamaican singer Shenseea has set many records at her own pace in the music industry even before her debut album Alpha was released last year March. She then led the charge as the dancehall artist with the most streamed project to be released in 2022 in the U.S., earning 60,000 album equivalent units (SEA,TEA) by the end of the year according data provided to World Music Views by Billboard sales tracker Luminate. Of that sum, album sales comprise 1300, equaling 90 million on-demand official streams of the set’s 15 tracks including “Up Next Shenseea ” outro.

However, long before selling records, and performing on the world’s biggest Festival stages like Coachella and Rolling Loud, Shenseea had a dream of becoming one of the biggest stars from the Caribbean. She sat down with WMV in 2018 to share her plans for a record deal, collaborations, ambitions of working with Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, and her ambitions in the music industry in 2018.

While she is yet to drop a song with either Minaj or Billionaire beauty Rihanna, the Loodi singer has checked off several boxes she mentioned in the interbiew, like signing a record and publishing deal and even some goals she never thought of like a Grammy nomination for Best Album by way of Kanye West’ Donda album, a certificate she collected only recently. one of her contributions to the album “Pure Souls” with Roddy Rich is certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association Of America (RIAA). Her first single to exceed sales of 500,000 in the U.S and Blessed, the first single from her debut album featuring Tyga is also certified Gold in Canada for selling 40,000 units.

Shenseea Joins The List Of First Time Grammy Nominees: a look back at her journey to the Grammys

The Trick Of Treat singer told WMV five years ago that she ‘will be doing everything,’ but she couldn’t see a way to enter the lucrative Spanish music market. “Where the Spanish market is concerned I think I really have to get a tight link for that.”

“I am focusing” Shenseea said, as she was getting ready to drop her Reggae EP named “Real and True”, a project that has never seen the light of day.

“So I don’t want to stray too much from what I am trying to put out to the audience. Also, the reason I don’t release a lot of freestyles is because I don’t want to get them distracted, to keep their focus, so I wouldn’t do a Spanish song right now but if I go abroad and link up with Rvssian it will happen,” she said.

Her song Red Velvet on Rauw Alejandro’s Latin Grammy Nominated album ‘Trap-Cake Vol 2’ got her feet wet in the latin market and that song has more than 6 million streams on Spotify.

During the in studio interview Shenseea mentioned that her early inspirations include Spice and Vybz Kartel and the then 22 year old dropped a freestyle that has never been released until now on WMV’s YouTube.
